Trail Name: Reddington Pass & Chiva Falls / Chimney Rock Trail Location: Reddington Pass Date: March 10th, 2007 Meeting Location: Eastern most Circle K on Tanque Verde Rd Meeting Time: 0600 - 0630 Dearture Time: 0630, Arriving @ 7 AM Communication: CB Channel 12 Trail Rating: 3.0 Necessary Items: Basic Trails Supplies, Tools, Parts, Etc. Food, Water, Appropriate Clothing, Gloves, Shovel, Rake. A Little More Info: The primary objective of this run is to work with the NAXJA group and the US Forest Service to get the Reddington Pass area cleaned up. This is a coordinated effort and volunteers are needed. USFS will be providing trash bags and dumpsters. Anyone wishing to volunteer will need a good pair of gloves. A rake and shovel may be useful as well.
After the cleanup concludes around 1200, I will be leading a group to Chiva Falls or Chimney Rock. The run to the falls is fairly mild and can be accomplished by a stock Jeep, however, optional lines can make the run more difficult. Being that the run is not starting until 1200, be prepared to return at dusk or evening hours. Please post in this thread if you plan on attending the cleanup, the run, or both so I have an accurate count to give to USFS. If there is any updated information, please post it here, or let me know directly.
Thank You Archangel

I'm in for the clean up and the run. might be able to rustle up some passengers/laborers for the clean up too. might be a good opportunity to get some video of wheelers doing good. I'll bring the video camera with me.

I've just updated the original post to reflect possible changes. Depending on the general consensus at the time, we may run the Chimney Rock area, or if there is a large enough group, we can split. If there is not enough folks wanting to run CHimney, I'll still lead the run to the falls, and after we are finished, I'll head for Chimney Rock to take out the trash. There was quite a bit out there today, and it needs picked up.
I'll be bringing my own trash bags, and I hope everyone will have some as well. It's always a good idea to keep one or two in your Jeep...heck, you'll never know what you'll find on the trail.

Hey Folks,
Just got an update via PM from AZDesertRhino regarding this cleanup. The times are still correct and nothing has changed. However, if at all possible TOR needs to provide a couple of things.
1-2 Larger Coolers with Ice. Water & Drinks will be provided by Fish & Game.
5 Gallon Buckets. These will be used to pick up the brass, and I am guessing there is ALOT of it. I'm going to talk to our treasurer and see if TOR can purchase 5-10 inexpensive buckets for this purpose, so we can hand them out. Anyone who has some and can bring them , it would be greatly appreciated.
A few of us have small offroad trailers. These will be used for carrying the larger items to and from the dumpsters. I'll have mine with me and if anyone has one, your encouraged to bring it along.
Fish & Game will be up in the second shooting area at 6 AM, and they need a few volunteers to help setup and get ready. I will not be able to make it by 6 AM. I am driving my wife to the PHX that morning at 3:30 AM and will be back in Tucson around 7. Anyone that can volunteer, please post here stating that your going up early so I can let AZDesertRhino know.
Your TOR board also has come up with a couple of ideas. We are currently making a sign to display on the side of the road stating who we are and showing our web address. We are hoping this may attract some more membership.
Also, we are trying to gather enough literature together to set up a booth for TOR, where we will have Tread Lightly Literature and other information, as well as club information for those who wish to join.
Also, as a reminder, if you plan on going, please post up here so we can an accurate account of who will be in attendance.

I spoke with Matt Walton Game & Fish on Friday, I let him know we wanted to set up a table with information to hand out OHV, ATV, Hunting, etc. He was all for it, he was also going to give me the sign in sheet for people to sign in for the clean up then there covered for Workmens Comp. I would like to make a sign that says sign in here for the Clean up or something, this way everyone will have to stop at the table. I have already been to Forest Service and got lots of stuff including for the kids. I am meeting with Matt Tommorow morning to get Game & Fish Literature hunting,ATV etc. I am light on Tread Lightly Stuff, My understanding was James or Christine was going to try and get a hold of Del Albright to see if he could get us some literature. Anything? Also Matt indicated there may not be a dumpster so we will probably be just putting it in a big pile. I guess they get charged an arm & a leg for Dumpsters. I may be able to get there by 6am, does anyone know what mile marker the second shooting area is? I can also bring a big cooler. If we are having a Board Meeting on thursday or prior to Saturday, I would like to have the banner and the Club Flyers so I have everything together, to get set up. I will be bringing all the stuff in my WJ, Michael is decidng on Trailering the CJ or towing jeep trailer, what is the status of the vehicle removal, we talked about doing it after the clean-up.

I get off of shift at 0630( barring a late flight ) so I will have to meet you up there. Just keep going up Tanque Verde till the pavement ends and head east. Are there gonna be signs to where everyone will be....or will I just run into you following the road ?

We probably won't do the vehicle removal on Saturday. I'd really like to leave a whole day for that one, besides we haven't heard back from the insurance company yet.
As for literature from Tread Lightly, Stacie Albright sent me an email saying that she sent me some application forms. They were light on literature, too. Haven't checked my mail this weekend yet. Will let you know what, if anything, I get.
Just a thought. If they just put all the garbage in a pile, I'd like to collect all the brass shells in some of the 5 gal buckets and take it down for recycling as a fund-raiser for the club. Anyone else think that's a good idea?

Just FYI: When I was talking to Matt he told me one of the enviromental groups wants to recycle the trash. He said two things one he didnt want to have to sort trash (Me Niether) and two since its "Considered goverment property" (yes the trash ) if you want to profit from it he has to contact there lawyer, and they contact your lawyers etc. You get the picture. I did get the feeling his attitude was sort of "Don't ask, Don't tell" Dont make a big deal of it. Ecspecially since him and his intern are probably going to be hauling the trash to the dump to save money, it will be that much less he has to haul.

So basically, Judy you're telling me if I take a bucket and collect only the brass, no one is going to say anything, or what. Don't want to get into a controversy over some $20.00 in brass, but if they're just taking it to the dump anyway. Just want to make sure we're all on the same page. Please advise.

To any recycling place. The cool thing is most places will give you a little more money for it if you're a non-profit corporation.

I'll be picking them up at the end of the week.

If there is a need for them, I could bring some extra rakes, shovels, trash cans for collecting stuff, and xtra coolers. Let me know.
