Trail: Gunsight Pass Location: Hwy 83 South of Tucson Meeting Location: Houghton & Valencia (Ace Hardware Parking Lot) If you have any trouble locating the meeting spot, give me a call at 520.850.9359. Meeting Time: 0800 AM - 0830 AM ETA at Trail Head: 0900 AM Hey folks...planning a run to Gunsight Pass...It's a very easy trail and I beleive a decent 2wd rig could make this trip. This is a very scenic trip which takes you up and over the mountain range south of Tucson. We will be starting on the Southern side of the pass and working our way back north. We will be running 231 to 4051 to 505 to 4834 back to the 505. There will be plenty of opportunites for the 4wd rigs to goof off, and if there is enough interest, after we've reached the end of the trail, the 4wd rigs can turn back to run the 505.At the very top (Gunsight Pass) you have a FANTASTIC view of the Tucson valley. Please come prepared (i.e. food, water and supplies for everyone in your party). This will likely be a full day run, depending on the amount of folks who show up. Please post in this thread if you plan to attend so that I can accurately account for the number of rigs showing. I'll be in attendance with my family (wife and two daughters). See ya Saturday, August 5th! Attendees: Archangel - Trail Lead Slick1100 Yotamaster K5 rtikul8 enderusaf ecameron87 scooterd58 2000taco rolla dragon51 - Tail Gunner (Tenative)

We ran into one on the chimney rock run. I think there is a picture of it in the run highlights on the main page.

There's a possibility that my friend Steve may go. He just bought a 94 Land Cruiser that is setup very nicely and is itching to try it out. I'll post up when I find out.

Sounds great...Bring him along...The more the merrier. This is an easy run, so I am not to concerned about the number of rigs showing up. I think the more that show the better it will be for this board.
We're going to start on the south side in the wash, and come over the mountain back into Tucson...

Count me in as a yes, unless something comes up. I was supposed to go up to Flagstaff for the Fat Tire Bike Ride, but I really don't want to drive for 6+ hours just to get there.

This group is getting pretty large, which is great, but I'll need someone to volunteer to run tailgunner. The only requirements for tailgunner are that you have a CB and that your rig is 4wd. Also, decent off road experience is preffered. The tailgunner is responsible for communication with the trail boss (me) and letting me know if the group has to stop or has stopped for any reason... If you want to volunteer, but don't have a CB, let me know. I have a portable unit set up that I can put in anyones rig.

Well, a map is nice...but I ran the trail today and it should be no problem. A 2wd might have a little trail in a couple of spots, but overall, should be easy. Really, it depends on which way we run it. From South to North is much easier than North to South. Anyway, it took me alone about 2 hours to run the trail from start to finish. This was with no stops, and moving at a decent pace. So, I figure that with a group of 12-13 rigs, it will likely take around 4 hours (stopping for lunch and all)

I need to make a decision...
Do I want to do a leasurly trip for my "first" 4wd experience (been a passanger on some scary chit), or do I wanna run Charleau? There are a couple peeps that live near me that are going that same day... I am certain there will be water crossings with all the rains we have had in the river bottom.
I think the short ride might be better for a "first timer." Is there fun stuff to play on, you know, to articulate and get flexy?
Oh, I will probably be bringing a friend as my passanger/photo biatch, and I might have a friend come down with a cherokee that wants to run.
Oh again... my dad has been wanting to get out... He has an '05 Nissan Frontier...4x4 Nismo, with front LSD and rear locker. stock suspension lift. You think he could do alright on this run? He wants no body damage or pinstriping tho...
"The truck is too new for that." -Dad.
