Would my pops be okay with a stock 4wd... no scraping or anything? This is his truck. Older pic, he has put a leer camper shell on, and a yakima safari roof rack. He is going to put a 3" suspension lift on soon:

Oh yea, he would be fine...I could drive my Dodge Intrepid over Gunsight (well, it might get stuck in the washes with the soft sand, but it would make it otherwise)

James HAVE you ran Gunsite Pass since you have been in Arizona? If not I would suggest you make a prerun on that trail before you told the world that you could take a 2 wheel drive vehicle thru there. Especially in light of the storms that we have had the last few days and the ones that have been running thru that area for the last couple of weeks. That area is prone to rock/mud slides that make portions of the trail impassable to a 4 wheel drive vehicle let alone your Dodge. Depending on how you run that trail and which portions of it, some of it can be a little intimidating to even a moderately experienced driver. I personally wouldn't take a stock four wheel vehicle let alone a two wheel one. IMHO
Lonnie
PM me if you have time.

Lonnie, I agree with 99. I would suggest that you read the entire thread before you start making assumptions.

Lonnie, In reference to your post above, I have ran the trail very recently...how about in the last 24 hours. Second, this trip will mark my 6th trip over Gunsight pass. I ran it yesterday in 2wd. The only thing I did was air down my tires. Now, I am sure there are sections of the trail that are brutal, however, I've yet to see them. The portion of the trail that I am doing, I'm fairly confident that I could drive a car over...yea, a car... Now, I cannot assume I know who this is. I think it is a friend of mine I've run trails with before, and if so, I can recall a conversation in the past about Gunsight past in the not so distant pass where you called Gunsight a "dirtroad".... This post kinda frustrates me a little bit...I am not the most experienced wheeler in AZ, but I've been doing this for a while now, and in the last three months, I have been on over 35 trails runs. I wheel...ALOT..... Last month alone (July), I ran 12 different times. Oh, and if this is a Dodge... Now, if you'd care to join us on this trip, I'd LOVE to see where the harder sections are. I've run the trail many times now and its one of my favorite runs. If it was a little more challenging, it would only make it better....

My dad does want to go, and I will possibly have a friend who wants to come too... that would be 3 trucks (including me). I hope that isn't too much. I noticed there are alot of people that will be going already. Really looking forward to it. I am getting excited.

Lets see..I think that makes a total of 14 or 15....big group, but I don't think it will be a problem. I'll just have to make sure that we have good communication and that its spread out amongst the group. Also, staggering the group will be important. (Less equipped rigs between the more equipped ones). This will be an awesome showing for TOR. Its' a good 30 minute drive on the highway to the trail head, and I can see it already...15+ TOR rigs headed south...should be fun.

Theres not much left of the town. My dad was out here in the 70's and there were still adobe buildings. Now I think there is only one or two small walls left. Of course I haven't been there in a few years so theres probably even less now.

Hey guys bad news for me, the weld on my trac bar bracket didnt hold so its still trying to break off the bracket and now the rear drivers side tire is rubbing the coil spring which will pop the tire if i drive on it anymore. So unless i can find a Dana 35 for coils and get my new rear adjustable trac bar by saturday i wont be able to make it on this trip. Should at least have it done by the Mt. Lemmon run but hopefully i can get these parts quickly before the Gunsight run, ill keep you posted if im gonna make it but for now looks like a no go for me.

Lonnie, I agree with 99. I would suggest that you read the entire thread before you start making assumptions. Kyle I would suggest you listen to Lonnie! He has run all the trails in the Tucson area more times then any of you or me put together. Unless you’re doing the whole 505 you’re not really doing Gunsite Pass Trail, the 4834 is a by-pass. Food for thought - if I don't make it hope ya all have a safe and fun time.

I mapped it out, and it looks like from 83 to Sahuarita Rd, it is 27 miles. That is including the loop that goes thru Sycamore Canyon. I can see where the trail could be rutted out going thru that loop. Reading my topo map, it looks like you are running on a shelf road, dipping down into the canyon, then a shelf road going back out.... Then again, 4834 doesn't look much better, lol. I had no idea this was soo close to my house. I live off Duval Mine and I-19. Yeah, it is 3am, and I can't sleep... I am bored Oh, I think my dad is going to bail out. He is afraid with all the rains we had, this trail will be jacked... I dunno. I for sure am still going, don't know about him, haha. I will know by the end of tomorrow. Here is a 3-D view that my mapping software generated. yeah, I am really bored

Hey James I am all for the 505 when were done! I just want to play with my new setup. So, are you planning the 4834 to be the main route for this trip? The 505 will be a by-pass, lol.
