Trail Name: Redington to backside of Mt. Lemmon Trail Location: not far from here Date: 12/2/2006 and 12/3/2006 Meeting Location: Circle K on Tanque Verde Meeting Time: 0900 Dearture Time: 0930 Communication: CB Channel 4 Trail Rating: 3.0 Necessary Items: food and water, camping gear, and whatever else you might need A Little More Info: 130 miles of off-road driving. It's a long day, and a long distance. We'll be taking Redington Road all the way to Redington, then looping north almost to San Manuel, finally heading West before climbing Mt. Lemmon proper. Nothing too tricky, aside from some washed out places on the back of Mt. Lemmon. It's a long trek, but those who went on the previous Mt. Lemmon run should be able to vouch for the scenery. No limit on the number of rigs. If needed, we can split into smaller groups. I'm adding this in: Rice peak. Nice side jaunt, and it's challenging from what I understand. Attendees: 1. Slick1100 and Docchaos 2. Archangel (pending motor swap)

If my motor swap is done by then, I'd be down for that...would be a nice and easy shakedown run...

If you're worried about gas, we could swing up to San Manuel. From the looks of it, they should have gas available, though pricing is likely higher than in Tucson.

That would make for a looooonnnngggg day. Maybe split it, and make it a campout? I might be down regardless. Pretty scenery.

It's about an 8 hour day. I did it when I was still with the Forest Service, but we started and ended at the Palisades Ranger Station. Made for a long day, but fun.

Won't deny that it will be a long day, but splitting it isn't really doable for me without starting the trip Friday and continuing Saturday, and that doesn't jive well with other's schedules either. There's really nothing difficult about the trip, it's just alot of time in your rig. I figured leaving at 0930 should get us back in town around nightfall.

Just an update, but I've got tentative approval for Sunday off, so who's up for this trip if it's an overnighter?

Last chance before I call his run. I haven't done Rice Peak yet, and we'll be "in the area" so to speak, so maybe run Rice Peak Sunday morning before the trek back into Tucson.

Okay, putting this back in newer stuff to get it back out there. Noticed a lot of folks balked because it was originally planned for one day, so Slick took of the 3rd to make this a camping trip over the 2nd and 3rd of December. Just checking if there's any interest before everyone signs up for the gap.....

At least this would be a bit different....And an "easier" run for the motor. We cam discuss it at the meeting tonight.

In all honesty, I want to get out and see more than the Gap, Chimney, or Chivo.

But you have never seen the Gap

But you have never seen the Gap No, but the Gap will still be there, and there are plenty of pictures of it from runs past. So far Austin is the only one who has said he has made this run before, and he said it's fun.

Ok, I've heard that there's still interest in this run, but nobody else has posted up. Looks like James will be able to do the run. Anyone else?
Also I've been pondering where to camp. Looking at my map there is a BLM wilderness area outside of San Manuel. The surrounding land is state land, thus requiring a permit, or the other option is somewhere at the base of Mount Lemmon or Rice Peak. What's it cost to stay at Peppersauce? The Doc and I plan on sleeping in the truck. Much warmer that way! ;D

I only have to work a few hours Saturday Morning...

Eh, ok, I'm gonna call this one. Simply not enough interest, and I'm not up for running it alone yet. Sorry James, hate to do it. Everyone else, have fun at the Gap if you decide to run that.

Its rated a 3, its not to hard of a trail, i guess you go through the peppersauce campground like we did for the backside of Mt. Lemmon but instead of taking the mt. lemmon trail you take a right or something. Looks like some good views out there anyone done this trail before and want to run it again or just go along for a scenic trip? what do you guys think? I would even camp if you want slick since i know you got sunday off. I just dont want to run the long trail all the way through reddington.

It is a fairly easy trail, I've done it several times. It gets most of it's rating from the last 1/4 mile, it is a steep climb that is covered in loose rock. From Oracle once you get to the Peppersauce Campground entrance you turn right and just follow the trail.

Or heres another idea, what if we drive up the paved side of Mt. Lemmon come down the backside of Mt. Lemmon and then when we get to the peppersauce campgrounds start making our way up Rice Peak and camp out at the top? That would be a good day of wheeln.
