Some friends and i are going to pull the motor on my jeep j-20 pickup on oct 28, and putting it back in on either the 4 or 5 of nov. The main reason is to replace the clutch, but i want to replace some gaskets, clean the engine compartment, reroute some wires and paint the engine. Also put some bling bling on the motor. So if you are in the neighborhood feel free to stop by and shoot the bull. Thanx

I can help with the removal, and I'll be along to help with the install if you're doing it on the 4th of Nov. I've got an engine sling/leveler if needed.

Ernie, its my leveler, but your more than welcome to use it. As of this moment, its still bolted to my I6, but I can pull it off for you and have it ready for Bob to pick up before the end of the week. I would just need it back within at least two weeks.

Bob just talked to Ron, if we get done pulling the motor we were thinking of putting on the rear cylinders, brakes, hold downs, and spring kits, so if you have the proper tools to do the rear brakes please bring them, that way we can kill two birds with one stone, watcha think.

Well bob and ron showed up at 8 am and we started to disconnect the rest of the stuff that had to be done, there was no problem pulling the motor but ron didn't like the way the engine stand was bending. so after getting that fixed and the motor was finally on the stand, after bob left ron and i washed the motor down and it got pretty clean. then started to paint some brackets, also got the headers sanded down and painted, and did a few more little things, if everthing works out i got 1 week to get everything done and get it ready to go back in next sunday.

Wow, and still got the motor pulled in about 2 hours with having to unbolt the bellhousing from the motor, pull the starter, drain coolant and disconnect hoses, and loosen up the motor mounts, etc... I think I know who to ask for help when it comes time to pull my next motor!

Some good points to remember with these rigs (modified 4x) the bumber on the J truck sits out farther then the hoist will allow the arm to reach to the motor. In this case we had to remove the farral lead off the bumper just to be able to pump it up and we still had to get the motor to move forward about 10" just to come up. Also engine stands do age and the metal fatiges check tools good so that things run smoothly. Alot of us run modded rigs check that the hoist will go higher then a lifted rig.

Looks good guys. I gotta agree on the hoist. Even without a bumper there is no way I could get one to work. When mine went into the J the clip came off and it went down onto some roller tires. Still was a heck of a reach.

Slick for about the last three weeks at nite i was sitting in the garage and writing down everything that had to be done and got as much parts that i knew i needed, then sat nite as i pulled things i crossed them off my list. We did find out that a motor mount was bad, didn't know it before cause i have the motor cabled down, ordered the mounts today and will pick them up tomorrow, also getting the alum intake blasted tomorrow and the rad done. it is coming together but a little slower than i expected it to. Still have to pull the oil pan, replace the pan gasket, oil pump gears, timing chain gasket. water pump and gasket and paint the motor plus i know that i will find a bunch more to do.

Ernie if you get time measure the lift arm of the hoist you have, and I'll measure mine to make sure it will reach if not I can make an extension for mine.
