There was a neat thing that I read about on the ExpeditionPortal.com web forum where they had an "expedition" weekend. They had different classes on animal tracking, wilderness medical care, advanced GPS and navigation, winch recovery, and sand recovery. This was done all in one day. The next day there were competitions. Here is the link to the website: www.expeditiontrophy.com/And here is the summary of this years event: www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2887It sounded like fun and educational at the same time. This is something that I would be very interested in doing even if it was one class at a time. I am an Eagle Scout but still feel inadequate when it comes to wilderness survival. Maybe we could put something together? I am sure there are experienced volunteers out there that are willing to help.

I can help set up 1st aid courses if folks are interested. I can teach basic wilderness first aid (w/o a certification at the end) and can organize certified Wilderness First Aid (WFA - 2 days) Wilderness First Responder (WFR - 10 Days) or Wilderness EMT courses (WEMT - 30 days, National Registry exam) through the Wilderness Medical Institute of the National Outdoor leadership School. These could be a part of a bigger event, a pre-event-event, or stand alone.
it doesn't matter what you have with you if you don't have the knowledge and skills to use it...

I think this would be awesome for the group. If you need any help with the 1st aid and person recovery, holler.

Hutch, I didn't know you are on this board too. I think we met over on Pirate. I am the one with the 2, SSII Scouts. I'm over on the east side too. 22nd@ Houghton. Just moving down to Tucson and should be all in by the 1st week of January. I see that you have spent time in the AB wilderness. That was my backyard, Big Timber to Cook City area. Spent a many a day and night there. My favorite place by far. It was always surprising the amount of people in the Park and then just a few miles out of it in the wilderness, you wouldn't see a person for weeks. I really wish there was some sort of Trophy like event that would be local. We was really close to getting a similar event in Colorado going when I lived there, but it fell through. I was really bummed.

Yep, I'm here too, I can be a pretty hardcore web wheeler at times. Good to see you over here, hope to be able to get out and wheel with you some time.
I've spent a bunch of time in the Absorokas, beautiful country, and like you said, away from the park is uncrowded and open. Excellent backcountry skiing and snowboarding too.
I'll be back in AZ in January, and will look into getting a first aid course organized for the club. We will need to get about 10 folks on board, but I'll get the details out later. Hope the holiday season is treating folks well. I'm about to head from Wyoming to the front range of Colorado for the holiday, can't wait to see the after math of the big storm down there!

Its going to look a lot like this, except right now it is all powder snow. This was a few years ago when I lived there.
