Does anyone have any info on '88 Range Rovers. We were just given one....contemplating whether to modify for more serious offroad driving or leave stock.

Let me start with YOU SUCK! But anyways..... Depends, you looking at resale value? It's worth just over 2 grand if in excellent condition. Wheelability, it's good stock, better with slight mods. Not a rock crawler but will hold her own. I'd say mod her, run her and love her. ;D

No, looking at keeping it. Ty wants to keep it as his backup vehicle because the 1ton dually is getting a pipe rack on it.
Didn't want to mod too much, but wanted to get at least 32s or 33s under it. From what I read that'll take a 2" lift and give you about 11" of ground clearance. Now just got to price out the mods vs. my Rubicon lift. After this weekend I kind of liked Jason's idea of sleeping in the back of his Grand Cherokee.

When it works, good truck, when broke $$$$$$$$$$$$. Just like every truck out there if built right it will do whatever you want it to. just cost more.

Only thing I know to watch for is the motor. Well-maintained they're a dream, but can be expensive. Going cheap, convert to a Chevy motor and be happy. The best source of info would likely be one of the many Land Rover boards.

That's what Ty said. The rig only has 130,000 miles and runs like a dream. Great compression, no oil leaks. Been sitting for over a year and we thought the packrats got to the wiring, but it started right up without hesitation. Been reading up on the $$$$. I'd rather lift my Rubicon and keep this one stock, but hubby's not agreeing with that thought. Just wanted more info.

I think the rubicon lifted will prove to be better for the type of wheeling I think you'll be doing. The Range Rover would be good for camping and what not, but for crawling, its a bit top heavy IMO. Not to mention...I cannot even think of a company who makes a decent lift for the rover? I'm sure they are out there. On the other hand, Jeep parts, lifts and aftermaket support is everywhere... If it were me... I'd keep both the Rubi and the Range Rover... I'd lift the Rubi using the 5.5 LA kit from RE. I'd turn the Range Rover into a more expedition style of vehicle, roof rack, camping gear, OBA...yada yada yada.....something that could run a 3.0 trail, carry lots of gear and be very comfortable in doing so... Again, just my .02

The Rover is definitely better suited to expedition style travel, but there are great kits out there to lift it, like Old Man Emu and such. They might appear top-heavy, but I've seen lots of photos of them doing some pretty radical stuff just the same, and still have all the creature comforts. Everyone has their thoughts, and in the end it is your vehicle and your $$. Once you know what kind of wheeling you want to do, the choice(s) will be more apparent.

Where's Roverob at, he should have some good info on modifying the Rover. But I'd lift the Jeep so you to can play "follow James" and make him sick with the 4 to 1 T-case... ;D

That's what I want to do - lift the Rubicon and play. I do think putting the safari rack and such on the Range Rover would be cool, too. Ty was telling me he didn't want me to lift mine at all, since we have the buggy. Then I reminded him that I may go on trips by myself and now lifting the Rubicon sounds really good. LMAO.

James, your right, i was not on the "coke ovens run" or "florence" run. But at the begining this run was talked up to have tons of rigs and tons of people. Now to me that would have been cool, but from what i have heard on other boards that are a little more extreme than this one is..... The coke ovens is bassically a long dirt road. Sorry if i hurt anyones feelings, but i am not into that kind of "wheeling". That is why when i first stated that i would go on this run i asked if anyone was up for running anything harder than the coke ovens while we were in florence. There was very little intrest in that so then my intrest in that run died off. I know you guys ran martinez canyon which looked like a pretty sweet trail, but if i would have gone i was planning on running more challenging trails both days. So instead of driving 3-4 hours on a dirt road, Dani and I went to pheonix to watch the supercross race. Thats why i didn't go on the coke ovens run. Just to add a little more fuel to the fire, had i gone on this run, my jeep would have gone everywhere that yours went.

I'll stop...as for the run...sorry you couldn't make it...there were things that truly challenged my jeep, as well as Austin's rig. Martinez Canyon was pretty tough, and the entire road to the Coke Ovens was rock with several ledges and steps... Hope you all had fun at the races, and hope you can make it next time when I head for Upper Ajax and Highway to Hell...

Oh god, where to start? Forgive me now for my ranting. First keep it, or give it to ME (Seriously give it to me!) I miss my 89 You will be surprised at how capable that truck is. The motor is fantastic (replace it with a WHAT) it has been around the planet not just the block. The Rover V8 is an aluminum block originally purchased from Buick in the 1960’s. It is one of the most reliable and proven power plants available. Try this site for an introduction www.rangerovers.net . This is a link to a local club www.azlro.org All Land Rovers’ body parts are made out of aluminum only the frame is steel this results in a VERY low center of gravity. More to come….

We were going to ask $1500 for the Range Rover. I'm putting my old MTRs on it from my Rubicon. It runs fine, speedometer doesn't work, dash is a little cracked, interior is really rough, and it's almost 20 years old. Let me know.

We're interested in looking at it. That would give us two rigs to wheel, and really kickstart the RC project. ;D

Go for it slick with a stock rig you have a very capable truck.
To start get a new set of shocks and springs Old Man Emu will get you 1 to 1 ½ lift and the rid will be great.
