I think my rear main seal is starting to leak. It looks like oil is dripping from the weep hole in the bellhousing of the tranny. Clutch feels fine tho - I don't think it is spitting oil on there.
Is there any kind of additive I can use for a "crutch" until I can afford to pull the tranny and replace it? I will do a clutch and flywheel too at that time... that is why I am wanting to postpone it for awhile if at all possible.

There are some additives you can add,but my .02 is they are snake oil in the long run.As Slick asked oil weight and check all bolt for tight may get you more time.

Eh, had an old car that I bought from a friend for $100 with 170,000 miles. Leaked oil out the front main when I bought it. Asked him what weight oil he was running and was told "5w-30 'cause that's what's written on the filler cap!" Upped it to 10w-30 and never had a problem out of it for the next 10,000 miles before I sold it.

I am running a 10W-30 full synthetic oil. It has been dripping off and on lately. The only thing I can think of is that since I have been on strike, I haven't been driving as much as I used too, plus it has been significantly colder outside over the past week... That is when I noticed it.
Maybe I am just not driving it as much, and the colder temps are causing the seal to shrink a little.

Been running the full synthetic for a while, or is it a recent change? I ask as it has been my experience that if you want to use synthetic, use it from the beginning. Switching once the vehicle has significant mileage will develop leaks that were not there before due to the better cleaning nature of the synthetic dissolving the crud left from the dino oil. Also vehicles don't like to sit. They were meant to be used, and sitting can hurt them as much as, if not more than, not using it at all over the long term.

A high mileage oil might be the best thing out there. I don't have much faith in additives either and I sell them all day long. Do you have to pull the trans to do the rear main? I've never been under a Nissan but on my jeep you just dropped the pan and went to town on the motor. Never had to touch the trans.
