Hi All, I had mentioned to a couple of you that I was thinking of picking up a truck to use for wheeling. I wanted something I could wheel a little harder, without worrying about body-damage or breaking my daily-driver. Well, I picked one up this past weekend. I had seen a GMC Jimmy for sale on Craigslist and another site and it turns out it was bigazxj (Justin) selling it. It's a '79 GMC Jimmy: th350, np203, 10bolt front & 12 bolt rear axle, just needed an engine (and a few other small things). Justin and his friend delivered it to my house on Saturday and Justin helped me pick up a 350V8 from another friend of his. The motor is from a '92 Suburban and only has around 77k miles. Justin also threw in a 14-bolt rear-end that he had and didn't need - so eventually I will be hunting for a Dana 60 front-axle to go along with it. The Jimmy isn't pretty, but it's really solid, the only rot is on the passenger front floor-board. Here's a couple pics: Can't wait to get started on it !! The first thing I'm planning to do is swap out the front crossmember for a stronger, tubular one from OffRoad Design. This unit is much stronger and will make room for a high-steer kit down the road - I figure I may as well do this while there's no engine in it and there's plenty of room. Then, once I get it up and running.....the mods will begin ;D Steve C.

Looks like a fun project Steve. Those are some bomb proof axels you have planed for the build. Good luck with it all. P.S. when are you going to get out and do some riding with us.

Glad to see another blazer! If you need any help with the build up just let me know. I've torn mine apart on more than one occasion. I know the 10 bolt extremely well .

Although, the track was a little shorter this year. As for the riding, Adam is another guy on this board and he and i try to get out and ride with some of our other friends as much as possible and i usually post up on here when we are going so keep an eye out for that.

Wow, good deal! Already had the frame fixed? If not, it might be a bit easier to do while the motor is out.

Thanks for the offer - I'm planning on getting it running, throwing better tires on it and wheeling it w/the 10bolt/12bolt for now, then the mods will begin. So I might need to take you up on that 10bolt knowledge offer !! The frame hasn't been fixed yet at the power-steering pump. It looks to be pretty solid at quick glance, but I know it not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" it will crack if not addressed. I was planning on getting the steering box brace - but may do the frame reinforcement/fix while the engine is out too. Any volunteers have the ability to come to my house and weld frame repair plates in for me, in a week or two ? Steve

Thanks again for the offers of help !! I'll post when the parts come in and see what everyones schedules look like.

Yeah he is still in tucson. I know he went back home for the holidays so he was gone for about a month. As for work sending him back home, i know his dates got changed so now i think he is here through march. I could be wrong on that though.
