Haven't seen the caps joined like that, looking at the pic you have to do all four bolts together torg-ing will come in to play. Also can't see the adjusting ring to setup the side to side play but that may be just the pics, watch for the shim under the bearings.

Well I just found out that in 95 (and on) all toyota tacomas not sporting a an E-locker have this third member. It's funny I also read that the T-100, Thundra, and the Sequia all have the same third member.
Now I need to learn how to put in my locker. Rstep there's no caps. What you see is what i got.

Please, please, please ... do not take this the wrong way. I am really burnt on Toyotas. Toyota switching things so you have to do a month of research if you want to do something yourself! WTF!! You have to understand that I work in the plant (but not for Toyota, I work for a sub contractor) that builds the Tacoma, Sequoia and Seinna. You aught to see the stupid stuff that they do. But I also realize that ALL vehicle makers do the same thing so I am NOT trying to pick on the Toyotas.
This plant bought a brand new Ford F-150, brought it to the plant and tore it apart piece by piece. Just to see how it ticked. ;D
Wait until the new body style comes out. It's about 3" larger all around! I saw the mock up body about a year and a half ago. The stock over fenders are probably gone and a new face lift, but I have not seen that yet.

If you think Toyota is bad you should check out Ford or Honda. Ford Likes to change stuff mid year and the old ford change trannys like people change underwear. I know because I've work parts counters. Shot after market alternators are a witch to make work on the ford. I normally send people to ford for alternators. Don't get me started on Honda's. . I love Toyota's not because I drive one but because I don't fix many of them. As a wrench the only time I've seen a Toyota in is for normal maintenance or somebody did sometime really wrong (like me breaking a half shaft with open diffs). So I can take it when some stuff like this comes up. In fact I'm glad because this third member is actually beefer than the old ones. The old ones have 12mm bolt this one has 14mm bolts plus the thickness of the components is beefer which is better. So I don't mind the new third member. I just want to figure out how to put my locker in. Sorry that your burnt out on Yota, but if you work at the planet maybe you could answer some questions for me. First what part of the plant? Do you deal with the diffs a lot? Can you maybe get me an exploded view of this third member before I tear into it.? If you could I would appreciate a lot.

Sorry about the stuff your looking for. They hold that stuff pretty tight! I work in the plastics dept (bumpers and overfenders). I used to work in the paint dept which delt with the e-coat, anti-chip, under coating and painting the bodys. I will say that most of the metal on Toyotas are protected really great!
The dealership should have an exploded view for you. Most dealers have printed one out for me when I have asked. Just take in your VIN number or the number off of your diff tag (maybe even both).
