I am changing the run even more. We are going to meet at the Circle k in Oracle (check the map below) and go up the backside and BBQ at the top. The reason for this is that if we BBQ at peppersauce we would have to pay and there would not be much room for our rigs. Also 99frontierxe knows of some really nice BBQ spots near the top that would accomodate us for free. If you have any questions please let me know. The time is staying the same only the meeting location is changing. Date: Saturday, August 26th Time: 3:30pm (Depart at 4:00pm) Location: Circle K in Oracle ( Map) Communication: CB Channel 14 (Cell phone number - 520-403-3361) Trail Rating: 1.5 - 2.0 (My understanding is it is a graded dirt road) Necessary Items: -Plenty of water -Food for the BBQ (archangel is providing a small grill. No whole chickens or anything like that ;D) -Anything else you think you may need More Info: The trail is a fire trail down the backside of Mt. Lemmon. It is my understanding that it is very easy and could be done in a car with decent clearance. I would say that no one should have any problems. I figure if we leave at 4:00pm, that will put us at the top of Mt. Lemmon between 4:30pm and 4:45pm. The trail takes roughly 2-3 hours to complete. We will have the BBQ at the Peppersauce Campgrounds which is about 3/4 of the way down the trail. I would say roughly at 6:30pm. This will be a fun run so try not to pass it up. Be sure to post up in this thread if you can make it. Attendees: 1. K5 2. datrupr 3. slick1100 4. zjeep 5. rstep 6. archangel 7. 7lbar 8. dragon51 9. rtikul8 10. yotamaster

It's not in stone yet...but there has been discussion of a small run in the morning of the 26th. Perhaps to the reddington area. If there is enough interest, I'll take point and lead the way. We would have to be done by 3:00 PM so we could make sure we all make the BBQ...any takers?

We would have to be done by 3:00 PM so we could make sure we all make the BBQ...any takers? This got me thinking.......What if we did the loop. Get together at around 5:30am, go up to Reddington and mess around for a few hours, head to San Manuel, eat lunch, keep going to Oracle, head up the backside of Mt. Lemmon, stop and BBQ at a campground on the way down. We could also split the run up so if you only want to run Mt. Lemmon we could just meet in Oracle at a specified time or of you only want to do the Reddington part you could just take off after that part of the run is completed. This would take a lot of planning and it is my understanding that it is roughly 125 miles round trip plus the mileage of the trails at Reddington. This is just a thought and I would be happy with just doing a small run to Reddington the morning of and then go down the back side of Mt. Lemmon. Let me know what you guys think.

I think just a small run in the morning to get out and goof off. Would be good. I'd be up for the loop, but I think it would be harder on the folks who do not attend the loop to meet us in Oracle. Basically, I was just thinking of a 3-5 hour run through Chivo or Chimney Rock...
Be done by early afternoon, and head back out to get prepared for the BBQ.

Why not a run round Rice Peak?

Post by K5 on Aug 1, 2006 23:12:40 GMT -5
We could do Rice Peak but then we'd have to drive back to the Mobil. What about a run to Chimney Rock? Its a quick and easy trail. We could play around on the rocks and eat lunch before we head up the mountain.

I was thinking of running the front half. That way if any 2wd rigs come they won't have any problems.

I am up for a day of wheelin, but since I live way down in Sahuarita, I don't want to run a trail, then have like 3 hours of downtime or something, then have to drive back up the mountain.
Plus, running the entire backroad into Oracle is a LONG drive....closer to 3 hours, so that would put you at peppersauce close to 7pm or so.
If anything, I would love to horse around at Chimney Rock or Chivo, then head to the campgrounds via Ina and Oracle Rd, and just chill out, waiting for everyone else to catch up. We can get a later start in the day too... say 10ish.
This would also guarantee that there would be a spot at the campground.
A side note... There is a nice, FREE, place to hang out near peppersauce. You take the road (like you are going to Rice Peak), and there are some good isolated spots there. Just not well suited for alot of trucks. So, that may not be a good idea, oh well... just thinking out loud.

How about run UP the back side of Mt Lemon and have the BBQ on the TOP. That way you trail in the day light and have an easy paved ride back to Tucson. Also if some ones rig is down they can make it in say a Vespa (only if needed of course). The big up side is LESS BUGS at the top. Oracle C K

You bring up a good point Rob. What does everyone think about going up the backside and BBQing at the top? Also, we would have to pay to BBQ at peppersauce. We could all meet at the circle k in oracle.

I know of some NICE 2wd friendly, large campspots towards the top of the Mtn. They are still on the backroad, but will be FREE, and you won't have to have a permit to park on the Mt. Lemmon Highway. Any of the campspots on the front side of the mountain you will more than likey have to pay for...

We still gonna do a quick run out to Chimney before the Mt. Lemmon journey? I might not be able to but I'm sure archangel is up for it. I have to do some stuff for school so I may not be able to do a morning run.
