Need a little help. I am having a problem with my 88 XJ. It likes to stall when I want to take off or when I slow down. Sometimes I have to downshift to keep it running. Lately it has been doing pretty good about not stalling, but when it is cold you could still tell the problem is there. I have a Chilton's book and I have replaced the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor, the CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor), I even checked the IAC (Idle Air Control) and I have even cleaned the heck out of the throttle body with Carb X nothing seems to be doing the trick. I know I'm getting fuel because I have pressure in the fuel rail so it can't be a fuel pump and I know it's not the fuel filter because I replaced that about a month ago. I'm going to keep looking thru my book to see what else I can find and try but any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Alex

What motor do you have? And, judging by what you talk about...one of a few things come to mind... Throttle Position Sensor.... Vaccum Leak...(I can teach you an easy way to detect a vaccum leak using a propane torch (unlit).

XJ wifes 87 jeep wagoneer,4.0,auto, had the same problem, found out that the harness to the crank position sensor was shorting out, replaced that and havent had a problem since. Don't know if this will help but it worked on the wifes jeep.

I have a 4.0 inline. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it doesn't seem to be out of place and the bolts are tight on it. I recently got a JP 4x4 mag and in there is a section on jeep problems and one that sounds a lot like mine is the camshaft position sensor in the distributor. I also have checked all the vaccum lines and none are broken or cracked so I don't think thats it but I'll check the TPS and see if thats it. Thanks guys for your help and if theres anything else you guys can come up with please let me know, thanks again.
