I'm thinking about getting some Dana axles for The Blazer but to tell you the truth I don't know a thing about them. Anyone have an overview of Dana axles and what would work for my truck?

Kyle the danas aren't going to be any stronger then what you have in there,not sure but isn't the front of the 77 a dana to start with.If you look around you maybe able to locate a corp14 for the rear cheap and it would bolt in.You are looking at replacing the whole diff out right.

My year was the first year where you could have either a dana 44 or Gm corporate 10 bolt. I have the 10 bolt.

Thats the plan. I just read an article at coloradok5.com. They did a front and rear swap with a dana 44 in the front and a gm 14bolt full float in the rear. Seems like just what I'm looking for.

That would be me ;D Nothing wrong with an 8 lug front 10-Bolt or converting yours to 8 lug (larger pinion than a D44 IIRC). You can't beat the $$ value of a 14-Bolt. We'd all like a D60 front, but I do not have any children I can sell

It is not worth the trouble swapping out the 10 bolt to a Dana 44. They are about equal in strenght. Many say the 10-bolt is stronger. This has been debated many times at ColoradoK5. If you go with the 14-bolt rear, it is usually an 8 lug axle, there are 6lugs available from some vans, but are hard to find. If you want your bolt patterns to match the 8 lug 14 bolt rear axle, either find yourself a Dana 60 axle (very expensive), or swap it out with a 3/4 ton version of the 10bolt or Dana 44. It is almost the same axle that you have, only it is eight lugs and has a larger pinion as stated above. In my opinion, if you aren't going to go with tires bigger than 35" you are very well set up with what you've got. I have the same axles as you, and I have beat them a lot with no breaks so far. If you plan on 37" tires, then either learn to off-road with a light foot, or upgrade to cromoly shafts. Any tires bigger than that, you better upgrade to the Dana 60.

I don't really plan on having tires bigger than 35 inches (at the moment ;D). When I get to the part of my to-do list that involves axles I'll have to research a little more and make a decision.

I have a friend who asked me if I knew anyone who is looking for some 3/4 ton axles. If you're interested I can let him know. He might even be willing to swap for a decent small block. And the conversion is a snap too.....
By the way I signed up on this board as FNLRNO but when I enter that as my name I'm told that that name is already in use by another member. I got tired after the 5th attempt and put in my name (Jim) and it let me in. What gives?

I wheel pretty much the heaviest rig out there(Suburban) and you will have no problems with up to 35's on your axles 10bolt/12bolt. I wheeled a D44/12 bolt under my junk locked with 35's and beat the crap out of it with stock shafts, no problems. I switched to 37's and it was fine, but I got even more throttle happy out in the dunes and bent the housing 3 times from too much weight plus jumping and the bent housing cause carnage of the locker, and a stock open diff. If I could have kept the housing straight, everything would have lasted, never broke a rear shaft either, even with the 2-lo conversion and a hammer down attitude.
