I posted this over at vjc, but also thought I would ask here. I guess you could just about do this swap on any v8. Just looking for some feedback from anyone who has pulled the the junkyard parts and done this swap. About the only thing I am really concerned about is getting the computer tuned right.
Was just curious if anyone has done the TBI swap from a chevy 350 to their Jeep engine. I have read a lot of the stuff on JU that Ken Gaines had posted. Was just looking for someone local, who wouldn't mind being a necessary reference, if necessary, before I get started.
If ya have done it, would ya do it again? Is it a pain in the...? easier to suck it up and just buy a howell?
Thanks for your input. Thom

Give me more info on your engine, year, and jeep. I may be able to help.

If it worked, wouldn't you have to get the computer "flashed" to match the engine?

sorry yota, but am at work today/tonight and have flown my tail off today. it's an 84 CJ7 and actually a 360. I have all of ken gaines post off of JU. He actually walks through alot of the swap all the way down to which computer programs to use from a laptop to tune the TBI computer. This is only a small part of the info I have read from this guy, although long, it is awesome readin'. 65.42.106.152/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=474943&perpage=20&highl ight=tbi&pagenumber=1

Yes, infact you do have to flash the puter, but there are free programs out there and the "autoprom" set up that allows you to tune on the fly. I was talking to my dad about doing this and explaining my fears about doing it. ....after receiveing his reassurance about my mechanical abilities from a guy who can fix anything. I told him worst come to worse, pull the throttle body off and throw my carb back on. This is gonna be a very slow and on going project. ...I might even chicken out and buy a howell. I will keep ya guys posted.
