Ok for those who don't know as well as me I thought this would be a good question or should be added to one of the stickys that list what equipment is needed.
What size Tow strap 2" 3" and what weight should it be rated at? As well as the length?

I carry 3-3" 30' straps rated 20k, 1-6' strap rated at 20k as a tree saver/load equalizer, 3/4" shackles, ...Maybe we should have "Recovery Clinic"...I've done these before and it's great thing to pool everyone's experience and go over the basic's of vehicle recovery, ie: winch safety, vehicle recovery, getting the shiny side back up...things like that. I did a couple of these back east...

Yup what he said. I will add that I have seen many straps fail. A place I used to go to where everyone mud bogs, folks used all sorts of straps, and they are not all good. Never use a strap with hooks, only ones with looped ends. Cut up and throw away any strap that is frayed and cut. And never trust a light duty strap or a frayed strap. A stuck rig weighs alot more than the actual weight of the rig. A 20 thousand lb strap or heavier is the only one to consider for what we do.

Would you be interested in leading it?

I've done a few different seminars about winching, vehicle recovery and basic trail safety... Let me know when you'd like to do this...we can find a suitable location and get as many folks out as we can for the seminar..kinda like a meet and greet sort of deal.

I like the idea of combining with a meet and greet...

Just wondering why does everyone say not to use a tow strap with hooks? Is it only because if the hook came loose under tension a somewhat large piece of metal (the hook) would be flying probably in someones general direction. Just wondering if that is why or if there are other reasons.

If the hook comes loose it is like a missle, it will go thru things that are it its way. If the hook hits your body it will hurt you of worse yet kill you. not a good thing.
