Well, I am starting a full tube chassis for my RC project. Figured I would start a new thread. So far, I have come up with dimensions for my new rig. My new wheelbase will be 15" and track width (center of tire) is going to be 14." Overall outer dimensions of the chassis are going to be 16" long, 6" wide, and approx 6-8" tall. I am making the whole thing out of 3/16" solid rod. Will be a bit heavy, but damn near unbreakable. Still not sure of how I want to do my axles, but there are several options available. I took a coupla pics of my template, and rough sketch, just so you have something to see. I have to do a coupla house chores before I start welding and cutting. Gotta keep the wife happy, haha The drawings on the cardboard are for the main outer tubes. If you look at the "sketch," it is the "hood" and what the cab will be made from. And here is the sketch of what I would like to achieve...approximately, lol.

You want project pictures? You CAN'T handle project pictures, haha... sorry, I am a dork. Anyway, after finishing the "honey-doos," I proceeded to wreak havok in the garage. End result: Main hoop finished, battery tray done, and the crossmembers that will start to have the cab take shape done. I am gonna need more steel than I originally thought. I picked up a 12' run of stock, and 6' is tied up in what you see here... much bigger than I thought. Oh well Here's some pics. The battery tray and long end is the front of the buggy, the stubby end will be the rear From the top down: Side shot: Top 3/4 View:

Update as of so far I ripped apart my EMAXX, and proceeded from there: I wanted to lock my tranny in first gear, thus eliminating the amount of slop in the stock tranny. These pictures show how I achieved that... Stock EMAXX transmisison: Here is the tranny cracked open. The shaft below the two halves of the tranny are the 1st and second gear. First gear is on the right: The way you "lock" the tranny in 1st gear is to drill the shifter gear, then screw it through the gear: I am now going to start work on the chassis, and see if I can't get the transmission mounted. I think I am going to shorten my chassis by an inch, but we'll see. Just wanted to share

Well, we all love pictures, so here's some more, lol. I got the trans and battery all mocked up, and ready to go. I have to make one small change to the rear mount of the trans... the output shaft smacked right into a bar, so I just cut the offending bar out for now. Now, I get to start on the cab, as well and the belly of the crawler. Remember the battery is the nose of the crawler Here's what I got done:

Doesn't seem to have that much interest, but here's some more pics... got it all mocked up on my bench. Tomorrow, I will pull the motor back out, and finish the cab, and hopefully the belly. I was a little bored, and wanted to get a feel for how big this thing will actually be. Wheelbase is 15." Track width is 13." The height of the buggy will be approx 11.5." Clearance under the belly of the buggy will be approx 5.5" and diff clearance is 4.25"

Looks great Greg! Are you going to do the "solid axle" mod or keep it independant suspension?

I am gonna go "solid axle." I have to make my lockout brackets and stuff, so we'll see how it goes. Flex sucks with the IFS setup, haha.
