After seein the crazy r/c incident this weekend at the BBQ, I'd thought I post up some pics of my project... It is a E Maxx, that I have been turning into a rock crawler. I have not done a straight axle conversion yet, mostly because I want the IFS for high speed drivin. I picked up a Nissan Titan body, and cut it up to look kinda like a stadium truck... still have to do some more "tube" work, haha. I have spooled both front and rear diffs, as well as fabricated a roll cage using 1/8" steel rod. Running a softer spring, so I do get better articulation, but nowhere near as much if I did a custom chassis and 4 link everything... maybe in time. I still need to add the motors and radio electronics... right now, it is a rolling chassis. Anyway, here are a few pics, just for sharin I put one soda can under opposing tires here:

Make sure when you are finished, you have a place to mount the glowstick.

I am expecting my motors soon, hopefully, by the end of the week. I picked up two Titan motors, and an ESC for 60 bux on ebay. One step closer

Looks sweet. I always wanted an E-Maxx. Are you going to gear it down to help it crawl, or keep it as a speed demon?

Well, I should be getting my motors sometime this week. I also ordered a JR XS3 radio with crystal free receiver. I should also be getting that this week too. After this week, all I will need are batteries and a charger...and I'll be done

I discovered my motors were shipped on the back of a donkey, so they won't be here till God knows when. My radio gear showed up Thursday, and I am going to install that into the truck tonight.
[soapbox] Why can't people just ship stuff priority when buying crap off ebay? My radio gear came here 4 days after I ordered it, and I ordered that 5 days after buying the stinkin motors. I make it a practice to always ship my junk priority[/soapbox]
I stopped by Competition Hobbies on the way into town, and picked up some stuff to get the truck moving along... pinion gears, servo tape, antenna tube, and motor mount screws.
Anyway, just another update.

After I get the motor and stuff squared away, all I will need are a few battery packs, and a charger, then... it's crawl time. Then, I will be unhappy with a stock emaxx, and make solid axles, and a custom chassis, lol.

Looks great Greg...cannot wait to bend...er...test the roll cage on my rock course... I dropped Kyle's and my chassis off today to get CNC'd, so hopefully, we will have them back by the weekend, and we can get ours rolling.

The rig is pretty heavy right now, even without batteries. I will use 14 cells to power this beast. I am building it up to be a dual purpose rig. I may have to redo the cage with brake line or something.
Hope it will do alright on the course, lol. If I can remember, I will bring it with me tomorrow to work to bring to the meeting. Pictures don't do this thing justice... It is freakin huge.
Pretty sick tho, spooled front and rear diffs, and big tires, with good IFS flex. Should be fun, haha.

i like that roll cage looks really nice. what do you have that thing geared at?

I dunno the gearing off-hand. Right now it is still stock, but I have 16 teeth gears to put on the motors, and if needed, I will change out the spur gear too. My buddy says that when the txfer case is in low-range, it actually crawls pretty good...so I will see from there. I am kinda keeping this rig as an "all around" rig. I wanna take it on my street and drive fast, then take it out in the wash by my house and crawl around.
I will probably turn it into a full crawler later, but for now, I just wanna play, lol.

Well, came home, and had a package at the front door. It was my batteries. They came fully charged, so I played. Forgot I didn't glue the tires to the wheels, so had to chase one, and keep popping em back on. My roll cage doesn't fit with the modified 7 cell batteries, so I need to make a modification to it. I dunno how it will do as a crawler tho. The suspension works pretty darn good, but even when the case is in low, it is still pretty fast. I need to regear the pinion gear and spur gears on the motor/tranny for crawlin. In high however, this thing is torqey... I can't keep the front tires on the ground off the line on a hard acceleration, lol. Just thought I would share

No. It was already pretty much dark out, and I was by myself, so getting "action" pics was difficult to impossible, lol.

Alright. I am 100% ready to rock. Got my battery charger today, all I need to do is change the plugs to "Dean's Connectors." Glued the tires, ready to tear it up, lol.

I am thinking about building a full "tuber." It does OK for rock crawling, but is waay too fast and geared to high for true crawling. I am happy with it as an "all around" rig, but I can see myself having more fun with it on the rocks.
Plus it will give me something to do while I am not working.
I am thinking about making a rig with a 16" wheelbase, approx 4" clearance under the diffs, and probably 5" under the chassis. While I am at it, I will modify my speed control for one motor and one battery.
