This is a very serious issue. A Canadian based mining company has purchased land in the Santa Rita Mountains and is planning on opening a copper mine. They will need a total of 4000 acres but own only some at the moment. They are relying on the Forest Service to give them the remaining acreage needed for the mine. If this happens the Rita's along with Gunsight Pass will change immensely. Those of you who made the Gunsight run know how beautiful this area is. It would be a shame to lose it.
There will be a meeting on November 14th at 9am at 130 W. Congress Street, Tucson, First Floor Hearing Room. I know this is during the work week but this will effect all of us in the OHV community and we need to attend this meeting to voice our opinions.
The meeting has been changed to December 5th. Time and location TBA.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors has continued the Resolution Opposing Mining in the Rosemont Valley, originally scheduled for December 5, 2006, until January 16, 2007. The meeting will be held at 9am in the first floor hearing room, 130 W. Congress St., Tucson.

The organization "Save the Scenic Santa Rita's" has released a petition for folks to sign who are against the proposed mine in the Santa Rita's. I strongly encourage everyone to sign this petition and help stop this. The petition can be signed online and only takes a few moments. Please help save the Santa Rita's.
