Trail Name: Rattlesnake Canyon (I think) Date: Saturday November 11th thru Sunday November 12th Time: 6AM Departing at 6:30 Location: TTT Truck Stop (Map) Communication: CB channel 14 Trail Rating: 2.5 Necessary Items: Food, water, tent, sleeping bag, extra blankets, warm clothes (the trail is at a higher elevation so it will be pretty cold at night), toilet paper , first aid kit, anything else you think you may need. A Little More Info: This trail is located SE of Wilcox AZ at the intersection of E Highway 181 & S Pinery Canyon Rd. It is roughly 100 miles from Tucson. There is great info about the trail here. We should be able to run the trail in two days but it may take three (I doubt it but better safe than sorry). If it does take three, the third day is Veterans day. Be sure to bring enough food and water for three days (two nights camping). I read a little more about the trail and I think I am going to have to limit this run to 6 or 7 rigs. The trail is pretty narrow in spots and I'm not sure how much room there will be for camping.
Attendees: 1. K5 2. rstep 3. 7lbar/archangel? 4. scooterd58

My dad went through that tunnel back in the 70's. Parts of it were collapsed and he had to crawl through. When he got all the way through it was a huge cliff with no way down so he had to go all the way back through. Sounds like fun .

I was just looking at the page you have linked to the writeup, and all I can say is I cannot wait until November. This looks like an awesome run and a perfect overnight opportunity. I emailed the address on that page trying to get the GPS coord. from him. I can map out the trail with my GPS when we go if I can get them.
ALso, there are lots of other interesting looking runs on the Expeditions west page. I'm sure you've already checked them out Kyle, but we might have to plan on a couple of those as well!

I confused my dates I maybe in for this one, also if your brakes have some miles on them check them out there is a long down grade that wiill heat them up.

Thanks for the information Bob....Here is a question...how far is from the trail is the final fuel stop. I always like to top off before I hit the trail....

Yes good question James, two options depending on what your start point is first is the first exit in wilcox this also the exit used on your way out if I remember correctly 20 miles is about right. If you choose to go in on the Bowie side you can gas up in Bowie then hit the trail head in about the same distance. Now for the option part if you go in from bowie it's a gradule climb and steep grade out easier on gas,if you go in from wilcox the grade may eat up the gas,at least on my beast it does. The roughest part of this run is not long not even a 1/4 mile but do to the creek bed grade and trees look at going down not up depending on the rigs that go.

Here are a few more things to think about as you set up for this run.these are the mountians I have hunted in and this is in the time frame of hunting season.the Chiricahua's have a bear population so pack your food correctly and seal your trash well over night.

archangel You might as well leave your .22 at home and just take the .50 bear steaks over the camp fire are always good ;D But seriously Archangel being from Alaska you should know better than anyone that it's always a good idea to have something for those late night bear raids, but they should be bedded down but then again this is Arizona. That dose sound like a fun run and I have everything I need but my wife is expecting to pop in November and the porch is not the most relaxing place to sleep

That dose sound like a fun run and I have everything I need but my wife is expecting to pop in November and the porch is not the most relaxing place to sleep And where did I say anything about a .22? I am sure my AR 15 will slow them down....if we even see any, I wrote to the "guide" at expeditions west attempting to get the GPS coordinates and waypoints for this trail, (which he is still working on finding), and he stated that while there are bears, there are no recorded incidents of the black bears going after folks up there. This DOES not mean that we will not take precautions, but I don't expect a problem..oh, and I'll still be packing...lol UM, Dj, I know where you live...do you have a porch in the apartment? lol You could sleep in my garage... ;D No, it would be better for you to stay home with the misses. She will need ya... We can go wheeling plenty after the baby is born...Hell, I took Ashlee out when she was a MONTH old on a 300 mile off road trip in AK....

Just checked out the page for Expeditions West and that run looks great, as James said, cant wait until November. Are you planning on meeting somewhere in Tucson and then driving up to the trail or planning on meeting somewhere closer to the trailhead. If possible i would like to meet up with the group somewhere around Tucson that way if i get lost im lost with someone else not trying to find you guys up there.

We're gonna meet at the Triple T truck stop. If you look under the location section in the first post there is a link to a map. Once you get to the map there should be a place at the top where you can get directions to the meeting place.

Got to love the forest service signs Here is a useless piece of AZ trivia, back in the '50's through probably into the '70's...semi's that did not want to stop at the San Simeon Port of Entry (POE) for what ever reason, i.e. overloaded, no log book, transporting illegal items, would take that road to get around the POE, but if they were not careful or did not know the road, they usually ended up down the canyon around the Onion Saddle area. So with a little history of the area that sign is not out of place.
