Trail Name: Box Canyon, Martinez Canyon, and the Coke Ovens Trail Location: Florence Area Date: Jan. 13, 14, 15th 2007 Meeting Location: Friday: Oracle Junction @ 6 PM Saturday: McDonald's at Oracle and Magee @ 9 AM Meeting Time: Fri: 6:00 PM Sat 9:00 AM Dearture Time: Fri: 6:15 PM Sat: 9:45 AM Communication: CB channel 4 Trail Rating: 3.0 Necessary Items: Food, water, camera, tent, sleeping bag, and for you full size rigs I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND extra fuel A Little More Info: The current plan (approved by Slick & Lex) is to camp on Cottonwood Canyon Rd. On Friday, at approximately 1:30 PM, Rocktoy will be heading for Cottonwood Canyon Rd, and securing a campsite. Slick, Robert and Myself will likely be following around 6 PM. The Saturday morning group is planning on meeting at 9:00 AM at the McDonalds at Oracle & Magee. They will be meeting with the Friday group at the base camp on Cottonwood Canyon Rd., which will be marked out by Pink markings on the main rd. The reason that Cottonwood Canyon was chosen over Martinez Cabin, is that the cabin sees alot of traffic, and it also eliminates the Gila River Crossing. There were some folks ill equipped for the crossing, and this makes it better for everyone. Once the Saturday group arrives, we will determine from there based on time constratints, and other circumstances which trails we run which day by having a discussion of those present. The coke Ovens is the primary target of the weekend, and it will be ran. However, there will also be time to play for those who wish to. All in all, its going to be a fun weekend.
Attendees: Leave on Friday 1.Archangel 2.Robert 3.Rocktoy 4.Zjeep 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Leaving Sat Morning 1.Yotamaster 2.98tj 3.Rebuilt98 4.K5 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

Due to things getting too out of hand this thread has been locked. What you see in this thread is what the plan is for the run. It would be great if we could accomodate everyone but that is up to Lex, this is his run after all. I hope there is no hard feelings between anyone. If you would like to attend this run please Private Message Lex (yotamaster) and let him know what day you will be heading to Florence and he will add you to the roster.

Kyle, I updated the list to reflect myself and Rocktoy leaving on Friday. Also, for those going up on Friday (As it stands now, its Martinez Cabin), we need to determine a camping location for Friday night, and where we are going to meet with the Saturday group for sure.... The run is coming up very soon.

Trail Information Update:
Browsing another forum (AZJVC), I was reading about a recent run through Martinez Cabin, stating that most of the bypasses are now gone, and that 33's are required, with anything smaller will require winching...FYI
Also, if anyone has any updated information regarding this run, camping location, or suggestions, please PM either me, Slick1100, yotamaster or K5...thank you.

The run is only 4 days away, and I wanted to just touch on a couple of points... This is an extended camping trip for everyone... please make sure you have enough water for each person. A good rule of thumb is 1-1.5 gallons per person, per day. Food, snacks, trail mix, jerky...you get the idea... Also, I was wondering if everyone who is camping could/would bring a bundle of dry firewood from the grocery/hardware/ ?/ store... IF everyone brings one bundle, there should be more than enough... To get things started, I'll be bringing two bundles. Finally, its going to be getting cold at night...Make sure you bring proper clothing and gear. Also, I've unlocked this thread. We can discuss things needed for the trip and details of the trip... Thanks. I'm looking forward to a great run this weekend with a great group of folks!

Also, I know we've hashed this out over and over, but can we get a final count of who is coming, and which day so that we can get a large enough camp site.
Thanks

I talked to BLM and they said that it is private property. If there are no trespassing signs we need to honor them. If there are no signs there.....oh well.

I talked to BLM and they said that it is private property. If there are no trespassing signs we need to honor them. If there are no signs there.....oh well. OK, after doing some research and looking at some plat maps, as well as other gathered information. The Coke Ovens themselves are not on private land...However, the trail going to them (the easier way) is, as well as a homestead)... There is still access, from the NW (looking at the map), but from what I have heard and read, this is the more difficult way into the ovens, with a couple of interesting obstacles... I still say we go, I still say we have a ball, and we can just see what happens. Overall, the area includes private property, but there is still access to the coke ovens with is Bureau Of Reclimation land. Some of the folks over on expeditions west are considering a cleanup/work effort to help out the land owner in repairing the damage and vandalism. It may not gain us access, but it is the right thing to do. I'll keep an eye out for any dates and other information and post it when I get it.

Right on, thanks. I'll probably pass on this run and get one by mail, not too interested in driving the Scout up to pheonix, though I bet the traffic might move aside better than the DD. Hope you guys have fun. Get some good pics and video if you can.

You all have fun and stay out of trouble. I'm bummed we can't make it, but we'll just have to figure another time to get up there.
Oh, and since nobody has posted up about it, Heather, did you find a sleeping bag? If not, I'll get in touch with James or Jason and see if either of them can swing by my place on the way up. There's no reason you can't use one of ours.

Hey guys I have bad news. I have to back out of the run. For a couple of reasons. But the most important is my son is sick and this could be really bad. We're waiting back for approval from the insurance company to get an MRI. So I'm sorry guys but I don't feel comfortable leaving right now. I'll keep you guys up dated on his progress. Please wish me luck and for god sakes pray for my son.

Good luck, god's speed, and keep in mind that my family's prayers are with you and your family.
