Carnage, there was carnage and no pics? Yep....just a little....one of my plastic center caps no longer exists, and my wheel is a bit more rockrashed...you'll see it tomorrow...There was also a radiator leak....and I think that was it

Carnage, there was carnage and no pics? Aside from James' carnage, I tweaked the cross-member that supports the rear of the t-case skid-plate. Dumb design anyway, as it was LOWER than the transmission cross-member on the driver's side. Also, I found out where my "small" coolant leak was after it became bigger. I'll be getting a new radiator before the next run. All good though, as I've got an electric fan to wire in too. Temps never became a problem, but it did drink a half gallon through the collector tank.

Cant believe the landcruiser finally got out there and i couldnt be there to see it, it better not break before i can go back out.

Carnage, there was carnage and no pics? Well shoot, had I known you'd want pics of what Zeke tossed in the back of the RC, I would have taken one. Better yet, I know where the bag is that the cleanup went into.... ;D

There was even some carnage on day two at the Gap, Scott's Jeep took a hard hit on the "floaty" and the right rear corner of the body. Then the floaty was bothering James as it just hung there, so he proceded to rip it off all the way. Picture will be in the Gallery soon.

That was a little wash that James and I played in, Adam and Scott didn't want to show us up with the open diffs, I'm looking forward to the video that Adam shot.

Finally got a pic taken today of the damage on the RC. Stupid crossmember design actually comes DOWN as if to clear something that isn't there. It got hit a few times as punishment! ;D

Well, while that sounds bad, a lockright is technically an open diff until you apply power to it. I can rotate my front tires (off the ground of course) a good 1/2 to 3/4 turn before the lockright catches...nothing wrong with it. Don't belive me....Jack up the rear end and support both sides with jackstands so your rear tires are off the ground...Put your entire drivetrain in neutral, and crawl under neath... Grab your rear DRIVESHAFT, and spin it by hand....you'll see that both rear tires are spinning if installed correctly... If I am not mistaken, you still have the D35 rear axle right.....Detroit = Carnage. I currently run a lockright in the front of mine and I've never had any trouble. Who installed your lockright? Did they install it correctly with all of the springs in place? Just hate to see you spend the money on a detroit that for one, you'll grenade your D35, and two, you'll never get the money back out of it... just my .02

They told him that his lockright was installed correctly but it was a bad locker right out of the box. According to tucson diff, they said that his lockright was machined incorrectly and that is what caused the problem. Yes he still has the d35 and they guy at tucson diff told him that he will be fine with stock shafts and not break anything. So then it came up that he had a detroit at the shop and would sell it to frankie. SO..... he now has a detroit and has gotten the jeep back from tucson diff. I am not arguing with you but i am just telling you what i know about his tucson differential experience.

Tucson Diff said lockright was bad...and sold him a more expensive detroit. Tucson Diff said a D35 with a Detroit would be ok? hmmmm... Lockright machined incorrectly...? Knowing how these lockers are assembled and built, I would think that a lockright would not even go into a carrier if it was machined incorrectly. Also, if the lockright was bad out of the box, why could they just not warranty it? Again, just my .02...but based on the information here, I'm not sure that I will ever go to Tucson Diff.. IMO

I'm with James on this one. It should have been warrentied if it was a manufacturer defect. A Detroit in a 35 with stock shafts is pushing it depending on how you wheel. I would never call it fine and claim nothing will break. Since he just invested a pretty penny in a Detroit locker he should probably spend some $$$ on Alloy shafts for a little safety. I'm scared with the Aussie in my 35, but my Dana 44 or Ford 8.8 pennie collection is slowly growing. I was lined up to get Alloy's, but I figure that will cut into the axle swap budget.
I've installed a few Lock Rights, a No-Slip, an EZ-locker, and an Aussie Locker. All have play in them, that's just the mechanics of it.
Now, my dad did have a Lock Right that was built incorrectly. It seemed all fine and well, until it broke while I was driving it down the road (of course it happened while I was borrowing his Jeep). Downshifted to 4th coming up the hill to my parents, there was a small popping sound, and then ever gear = neutral. Locked it in 4 wheel and limped the last mile home. Turned out the teeth had beveled themselves to about 45 degree angles so instead of locking it just ramped over itself. This was with a very lightly wheeled 4 banger on 31's, maybe 6 months on the locker, and it was installed correctly (according to the little spacer block anyway). He got his money back no problem and now runs the No-Slip. Been in a few years now, and on 33's for close to 2 years with no problems.

i've now seen two lockrights that have been machined incorrectly. both cases it was only about .005 off but just enought to make it break. it usually happens to the little pawl that keeps the teeth engaged. not very common but i have seen it. And they are pretty sloppy to begin with. just thought i would throw it out there
