So i talked to a few guys from the clean up the other day and they said that Martinez Canyon is one of the nicest scenic trails to do with plenty of challenging obstacles up in the Florence area. They also said that in order to do it you need to be locked front and rear and have 33's. I was looking through pics on AZVJC and found this trail report from someone
"We just did a night run of Martinez Canyon on Sat the 22nd of Sept. We went through Box Canyon, then up into Martinez. We had a stock TJ with open front and rear and 215 70 15 tires, had a TJ with 2.5 lift open front and rear and 2 lifted ZJ locked up. And a lifted Ramcharger locked up. All the lifted jeeps were only running 31x10.5 M/T. I never did use my ARB. I didnt think that it was that bad of trail to need 33 and lockers. Even the stock TJ made it with out any problems. All the way to the mine. "
Was hoping we could get a few people from this group make a trip up there camp out and do the trail. Ive never done it and i dont think anyone from our group has before so we would need to find a group leader or something. Would be fun, let me know what you all think.

To get to Martinez Cabin, you do not need the locked diffs and huge tires. To get to Martinez Mine and take the loop, requires the lift, tires and lockers. It gets pretty sick The whole area is very scenic. If there is time, I would recommend going to the Coke Ovens as well which is close to the Gila river.

I ran the trail with 33's and a locker in the rear. It's isn't super difficult but can get hairy. Expect some minor body damage. The scenery is incredible. People talk about the "luge" and the bypass. From what I can tell the "luge " is gone (eroded away) and the bypass has taken it's place. I was truly scared at that point of the trip.
There is a guy from Phoenix who took a tumble down a 200 canyon when the road gave way under him. They had stopped to take pictures and he went down the hill. Somehow by the Grace of God he walked away, his bronco was toast.
You can look up history on Martinez at the Az Highways website. Or Google it........ Neat history!
