I went on a day run with a group of guys from another board to Sedona to run Broken Arrow. This has got to be one of my all time favorite trails, as it offers good challenges mixed with some of the best scenery available in Arizona. I would say it rates at about a 3.0 - 3.5, but can be run in a stock 4x4 (We did take my wifes stock Grand Vitara and it performed nearly flawlessly). Here are a few pics of the trail from my run last week. Brian in his sweet Expedition Ready Disco II Seth almost made the entire trail in 2wd with out his locker...Almost: My Trooper leading the way: Brian starting down "The Devils Staircase": Mark in his very nicely outfitted '05 Expedition Frontier: Here I am coming down the "Staircase": But, if you do decide to run Broken Arrow, be sure to obtain your Red Rock Park Passes ($5 each vehicle), and be prepared to see a lot of these. Again, this is a great trail pretty much in the heart of Sedona, and the scenery will not dissapoint. Plus, if you go with your wife she will truely enjoy all that Sedona has to offer after the trail run. It usually only takes a couple of hours if you do not dally and take lots of photos, but you will be inspired by the beauty surrounding this area. If you need directions on how to get to the trail head feel free to contact me and I will help you out, or might possibly even join you. Have fun and be safe. Remember; TREAD Lightly, and Leave No Trace.

Great place, I only have one thing to add. Watch out for cops if you drive a big 4x4. I was being eagle eyed from the minute I got there, and finnally pulled over for nothing, only to have a kid cop ticket me for a license plate light.

Sedona is very beautiful has great scenery been up there once, did that trail and also soldiers pass area. I think its funny that the jeep tours wont drive up that obstacle that is shown in the first picture with the white Expedition, they will only go down it.

Looks awesome! I'm gonna guess 4wd is necessary since the Toyota "almost" made it entirely in 2wd?

Yeah Rob, 4Wd is required, unless you are highly modified like Seths Tacoma. He probably could have made but at one spot he picked a poor line and had to engage 4WD. He also used 4WD going down the "staircase" but only for the lower gearing. If you have a bit of a lift, and a rear locker and pick your lines carefully it can be done in 2WD, but the Balck Mamba in her current configuration will probably not make it over the "Devils Gate" at the beginning of the trail. There is a sign right at the beginning that reads, "If you can not get past this first obstical, you will not get through the trail."

For the record you don't need a Redrock pass to wheel the trail only if you decide to park and go off on some hike. The Pink Jeep tours say that you need one b/c they pay to keep this trail maintained and other than some nice scenery the trail is a joke in terms of difficulty. It's listed as difficult in most AZ books but the only time could be hard was if it was wet or if you decided to drive up the stair case but since the pink Jeeps have made that into a one way it's kinda hard to do w/ all the traffic running around. Damn Sedona tourists.

x2 pass not needed unless your stopping to hang out, i stopped and hiked up a hill for about an hour and didnt have a problem without having a pass, also trails are not difficult but great scenery out there, recommend everyone getting out there sometime to take a look at the views.

I would like to get out there... Broken arrow is an awesome trail, and the views from Chicken Point and Submarine Rock are breathtaking.
