The YJ is probably not getting killed....it's most likely going to a good home (one with a mechanic in it - that has alot more patience when it comes to electrical isues). Will know more today.

All projects are currently on hold. As of last nights run through the Gap, my m38 is DOA. The frame is snapped in two places, and there are some serious other issues. It's by far the worst carnage I've ever had and been part of.
Fortunatley, the gods are smiling on my today. A gentelmen just posted on Craigslist with a 95 YJ frame and springs for 200 bucks. The only thing the frame is missing is the spring hangers which I was going to custom build out of 1/4 plate anyway. I'll be going to look at it tomorrow.
I'll likely be getting the frame tomorrow and slowly start dismantling the M38. My plan on completion will be the M38 body, with the current drivetrain and axles, on the YJ frame, using YJ springs and I'll still do the 3/4 elliptical springs.

James you might have hit the jackpot if it works out. Talk about walking into a pile of sheet and come out smelling like a rose. LOL

After doing some research, I've got one of two options if I go with the YJ frame. I've either got to shorten the YJ frame, which really doesn't work for me, since I want to legthen my wheelbase anyway, likey using XJ springs which are 52" in length, with a 5" offcentered pin, ending up around a 100" wheelbase.
However, if I don't shorten the YJ frame, I'll need to lengthen the M38 Tub. I'd likely lengthen it right in the rear wheelwell. (easiest place to add sheetmetal) which would give me an additional 10" of storage as well in the rear of the Jeep.

Well, after spending the last few hours researching I've come up with my final goals. These will likely not change much overall, except perhaps the method to attain them.
Option A:
My current M38 body and drivetrain (axles, motor, tranny, tcase) will be swapped over to a 1995 YJ Frame, using XJ springs, shooting for a 100" +/- wheelbase. I'll be adding a 10" cros section to the rear of the tub to stretch out the body to match the YJ frame. Basically, I'll cut off the back of the existing tub and add a 10" section from another M38 body (willy's works). Also, this will allow me to repair the rot/holes in the floor of the M38.
Option B:
Obtain another m38 frame, reenforce it and do a one for one swap, building it right along the way... I'll still be using XJ springs, and adding to the wheelbase, but without the tub stretch. I probably won't add too much if I stick with the M38 frame...
Either option, a few other things will be added during this build up. I'll be doing beadlocks, new front and rear driveshafts. I'll most likely stick with the 3/4 elliptical springs, but I'm going to add two mods to them. First, I'm going to use an anti wrap device, which I was just reading about using a f150 radius arm as an antiwrap bar. I'm also going to configure a setup to "pin" the 3/4 leafs into place.
Unfortunatley, this is going to take quite a while. But, I'll get it done, and it will be done right. I should know by tomorrow which way I am going.

If you go with the m38 frame. I would like to know all you come up with to strengthen it.I have big plans for my cj and after this last trip seen it needs a strong back bone.I would also like to help on this project to pick up some pointers.Hope it works out to get you back on the trails soon.

So, I ran over after I got home from work and got my frame. It wasn't that far, so it wasn't to bad to go get...now I just have to get it into the garage. I'll let the photos speak for themselves....Thanks again Ryan... What your looking at is a 1954 M38 frame that will be heavily reinforced prior to installation. I even got a towbar out of the deal! Thanks also need to go out to Robert & Heather who were slated to buy this, but, rather they let me have it instead. First step will be to take it down and get it sandblasted and cleaned up, then I'll remove everything that not needed, and box the rear half of the frame. Ryan had an ingenious idea. I'm going to use pieces from the old frame and combine the two opposite c's [] to make a box. Stay Tuned.... Project rebuild ironhead is under way!

Well, went over to tech day today and got some work done on the frame. I got the outside stall, and although Bob graciously offered the easy up, I (stupidly) turned it down. The sun really wore me out. I just got the frame set up in my backyard, where it will remain for a short time until I get it sandblasted and cleaned up. I cut off anything today that wasn't needed, and did a little welding. I've got some pics that I will get up later.
I've ignored my jeep ever since the carnage, not even walking out into the garage, but it felt good to get back into the swing of things and start working towards a goal again. I want to WHEEL! ;D
