I've got a 258 that came to me in pieces. It runs now but still has a miss. I can afford half a sandwich and some frys if you're willing to work on it. lol. Actually I'd settle for a vaccum line diagram. It's a 258 with all the emissions for a 80 CJ7. Won't idle very well has an occasional miss.
Here's what I've done.
Checked plug wires w/ ohm meter (good results) Check compression (Even across all cylinders and good) Checked plugs (Look good) Valves are good, just lapped them when I put it back together Rotor and cap are new
It had a bent pushrod in it when I got it and we think it's do to a bad lifter which has been replaced. It does have 4 year old fuel in the tank and I know I don't have all the lines hooked up but I'm also not sure where they all go. Any advice as to where to look besides Haynes and Chilton?

Yeah Next chance I get to work it it we're going to put a vaccum gauge on it and the carb hasn't been touched by us. It's the stock 2 barrel. Yeah it might need cleaned. We did put 2.5 gallons of good gas in the tank, but the gauge doesn't appear to work (damn pack rats) so I don't know how much old fuel it was mixing w/ in the tank. Yeah it doesn't like to fire after sitting for a while even though we can see fuel going to the carb and I know it's got good spark so it's a delivery issue to the cylinder or the fuel doesn't want to burn, something along those lines.

Well for the first time in 5 years the chero failed emissions.Tweaked the carb so it would pass and get told the gas cap is bad.Two days to get one in,so guess I'll try again Monday.

I (prior to now ;D ) used to carry a cap that would pass. Slap it on in line and be done. It never fit correct, but it passed.

Bob just because you got a new gas cap they still had you go back through, when my trucks failed for gas caps just got a new one and went through and they just checked the gas cap nothing else. Sounds like they just want to try and get as much money as they can out of people. One time the international failed because of the gas caps. even tho it was supposed to have vented caps cost me 60.00 because i had a shop do it, it took a week and they sent me a check to cover what i paid, they did try to get out of it but i called phoenix every day and was a pita. Glad to here you are good now.
