For those of you who didnt know, back when we ran the Gap camping trip October 21st I managed to break my front CV style drive shaft finally. I've been pretty busy with work and workign every weekend hasnt really allowed me to have time to get this fixed so my jeep has only had 2wd for the last month But now that November is almost over i finally got my parts and if all goes together correctly i wont have the CV style drive shaft anymore. I picked up a U-joint style front drive shaft and also a new Dana 30 u-joint style yoke So if all goes to plan i should have this thing swapped out and replaced when i finally get 2 days off Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving and i will be ready to get back out on the trails soon as December comes around ;D

So finally got some time off and went to work on swapping in the new front drive shaft. The nut holding on the old yoke was a little bit of a pain in the a$$ coming off, maybe i was just being a girly man but i couldnt break it loose with a big a$$ ratchet with a breaker bar on it so i took an air gun to it and that took it right off After the nut came off it was pretty easy from there just slid out the old CV style yoke and slid on the new u-joint type yoke put on the washer and then torqued the nut back down. Then installed the new drive shaft, it was a little bit of a tight fit but it should be fine. Wont know until i get to test it out. Might take it out tomorrow since i have another day off on some easy trail to see how it all works out. Cant wait to be back on the trails in December, see you all soon. Have a good Thanksgiving everyone!

Have a good Thanksgiving everyone! LOoks good....so how much of a tight fit. You want to make sure that you have enough travel built into the shaft that when you flex and your shaft gets shorter, that there is enough room to do that. Otherwise, it will likely compress damaging something... I've seen a driveshaft of improper length blow out a t-case and it pushed through it. Ideally, sitting on level ground ylour drive shaft would be halfway through is total travel...so it can go in our out equal distance.

From the looks of the pictures the driveshaft looks to be the appropriate length. With fixed yokes at both ends it has to compress to mount it up. A definite check would be to park with the front tires against a curb and use a come-along to pull the front end down to compress the struts to the bump stops and check for clearance. A bit extreme, but you'd know for certain before hitting the trail. I'd say if it has nearly 2 inches of compression, as it looks in the picture, it should be fine as is.

Well it has plenty of room to expand if needed but it is compressed for the most part all the way it has a little more play in it but not much, maybe a half inch. Ill probably get another one just to have as a spair and maybe swap them if the other one feels better. I drove it around and took it offroad here on base just a little bit ago and it did fine climbing rock piles so im happy with it.

Well i took the Jeep out to a wash near James the other day to test it out, get a few flex shots to see if the drive shaft would come close to hitting and it had a good 2"s or so all the time so its good and im happy with it. Here are a few pics from playing in the wash my baby is growing up, i got a shot of her hitting 100,000 miles on the way back to base See you guys on the trails
