I'm sorry to have to post this informatiom. I only met Roger once but he was a great person and brother Jeeper. I can't post what I want to say. I'll follow up tomorrow!
Got this off of AZVJC:
It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Roger Krause aka LOWTECH. On March 10, 2007, at 6:10 a.m., an off-duty Tucson Police Department officer was returning a marked police car to the department’s Rincon sub-station after finishing an off-duty job in the 800 block of E. Wetmore. He was stopped for a red light in the eastbound lanes of Speedway at Campbell when a silver 1996 Toyota Paseo, also heading eastbound, passed through the red light at a high rate of speed. The officer began an attempt to catch up to the Toyota to initiate a traffic stop for the violation he had observed. The driver of the Toyota continued east on Speedway, at high speed, until he was slowed by other traffic that was also eastbound on Speedway. The officer was able to get close enough to initiate a traffic stop, however the driver of the Toyota was then clear of the other traffic and began to accelerate. The officer activated the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren, but the driver of the Toyota did not stop. The officer did not initiate a pursuit of the Toyota, which continued eastbound on Speedway.
When the officer crested the rise on Speedway at Winstel, he saw that the suspect vehicle had been involved in a collision with another vehicle at Alvernon. According to witnesses, the Toyota was still traveling at high speed when it entered the Speedway/Alvernon intersection against a red light. The Toyota struck a northbound Nissan Xterra driven by Roger Krause, 58, of Tucson. Mr. Krause was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He is expected to survive.
TPD traffic detectives responded to investigate this collision. The Tucson Police Department has also convened a Board of Inquiry to investigate this incident.
No citations have been issued. Traffic investigators will determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor on the part of the driver of the Toyota.

This is a sad day . I've wheeled with Roger on more than one occasion and he was a great guy. It's a shame that this had to happen all because of some stupid punk . I'll be monitoring the thread on VJC to find out when the funeral will be. Roger and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. R.I.P Roger.

I read this for the first time last night at about midnight, and all I could say...well, was nothing. Roger was a good friend of mine. He was one of the first folks I wheeled with here in Tucson, and he showed me alot of the trails that I now run on a regular basis. Roger was also a fantastic asset to the OHV community. Regardless of the situation, Roger was positive and enthusiastic. If someone broke, he made sure that they got home and put others needs far above his own. He will be sorely missed by me and the entire OHV community. It truly is a tragedy how he was taken, and I hope due justice is served. During my wheeling trip today, Roger came to mind many many times. Being that I had seen him on Friday on my way home, and his name actually came up in a conversation on Saturday morning, it's hard to believe even now that he is gone. I personally, as well as Kyle am keeping an eye on the VJC thread, and as soon as we know when the funeral is we will post up. I for one, will be in attendance, and I believe that Roger would want each one of us to be in our OHV rigs. Another thought I had today, and I am going to do it, is to make a sticker that simply says "Lowtech". That's his screenname on many forums he visited. I'm going to place the sticker on my rig, and if you knew Roger than you'll understand the sticker. For someone who didn't know Roger, then its just another sticker. Either way, its going to be my way of remembering Roger. If anyone else is interested in a simple small sticker, let me know, and I'll make multiple copies. There has also been some discussion on a plaque in the Chivo Falls area. It was one of the more frequent trails that Roger ran. Like I said, as we (the officers) get more information, we will post up. I know for me personally, that this event has changed my outlook on wheeling, and life in general. I sure as hell am more careful at red lights. What a tragedy. Roger, you'll be sorely missed.

Well said James. I'm also watching the different threads and will relay any information I come up with.
There have been suggestions of a memorial run and also a funeral procession of Rigs.
I'd like a sticker to put on my rig.
Thanks!!

Since the sticker idea has generated enough interest, I've decided to just get 100 stickers made. This will not be paid for by the club funds, but rather me personally. Also, Jim (AZDesertRhino) and Kyle (K5) have offered to split the cost of the stickers with me three ways, which right now works out to be about 17 bucks. The stickers should be here in two weeks, and I'll hand them out free of charge to whomever wants one. Thanks for helping me remember and celebrate the life of a fallen jeeper. Roger really enjoy off roading, and he did it as often as possible.
Also, the other discussion I've recently had with Jim and Kyle is the idea of having the memorial trail run on the same day as the funeral. Of course this will depend on dates and times, but this is just a general idea right now.
As soon as we have more information, I'll post it. I'll be attending the funeral, and I am sure that many members of the OHV community will be attending.

I ordered 100 of the stickers that I created below. They will/should be here in 2-3 weeks time. I know thats a while to wait, but I could not find a better price anywhere. Comes to a total around $50.00 and thanks to some generous donations, the cost has been covered and as soon as we get these in, I'll personally be handing them out. The stickers are 8.5" Long and 1.5" Tall.

Roger has wheeled with AZ Wildcat Offroad a couple of times, and he really is a great guy to wheel with. I remember meeting him at the Circle K on the way to reddington on a trip to Chivo last year. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.
I would like to put that sticker on my rig as well. Some of his advice went into building that rig.

Hi Everyone, I tried to login over on the AZVJC but that board is having issues and I am hoping maybe one of you guys could crosspost for me. I could not re-register there either. I am Robb, one of Roger's sons. I wanted to share some information with you all and express my family's sincere appreciation for all of the concerns, thoughts and prayers we have seen expressed on the AZVJC and TucsonOffRoad boards, as well as other sites. We havent read them all yet, but we will as we have the chance. We, as a family are stunned by Roger's passing, but we are taking care working thru the loss as well as the necessary next steps. Taking things one day at a time. In addition to the thoughtful messages we read here, before the AZVJC site went down, we saw a few of the posts made on a thread about Dad's passing and we sincerely appreciate all of the kind thoughts and sharing. I was only able to read part of the first page (emotionally heartwrenching for me personally) before stopping and wishing to read in private later. It is Difficult but also very Proud for us to see the kind outpouring on Roger's behalf. Again Thank you All, deeply. We would like to pass along the following information as well. At this time, Formal Funeral arrangements for Roger are currently scheduled to occur back in Nebraska in ealy April. (To be confirmed and communicated) In addition, we would like to have something like a memorial serivce, or maybe just a gathering of Friends, here near Tuscon as well, with all the concern and requests we have seen expressed by Dad's OffRoading Friends. This might best occur on one of his Favorite Trails here near Tucson ? We are open to suggestions. A date or place is not yet set for this idea or something similar to it. Respectfully, we would like to request that any flowers, collections or donations that might be occuring on his behalf be directed to the American Cancer Society in Roger's name. Roger greatly supported this organization and would be proud of that. I believe Roger would also be very proud of the Decal you have come up with. We will provide more information as it comes along, and again we would like to extend our Heartfelt gratitude to you all, in helping Roger enjoy Offroading and Friendship during his life. Sincerely, Robb Krause, and the Krause and Grueter Families.

Robb,
I've posted your letter on AZVJC and also on the NAXJA site where Roger was also a member.
If there is anything the family needs, don't hesitate to contact us.
Please keep us posted as there are many folks that wheeled with your dad and, as you have read, will miss him.
I think a memorial run or gathering in honor and memory of your father would be an excellent idea.
I am truly sorry for the loss of Roger.

I think a memorial run in the Reddington area would be rather appropriate. Perhaps Robb can coordinate with TOR and Naxja, as well as the VJC, and we can come up with a date and time. One idea I had...
Being that the funeral will be held out of state, and the majority of the Tucson OHV community will not likely be able to attend, perhaps we could plan the run for the same day as the Funeral. Sort of our own memorial service. Just a thought.

Another idea that may work with services out of state is that day every wheeler can run with lights on.And put a call out over the cb for Lowtech or the tailgunner at a certain time.

I just returned home from KGUN 9 news station, where I did an interview for KGUN 9. The story will air tonight at 6 PM, and 10 PM. Standing in front of a camera, answering questions about a fallen friend, is truly, one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life.
Roger, you will be missed buddy.
