On our recent trip over the mountain, it was discovered that there is an old van carcass off of the trail on the north side of the mountain. I mentioned it to the folks on the run, that this would be a GREAT opportunity for TOR to get together and do something for the community. I've also discovered that there are a couple of junkers out in the reddington area. I'd like to start with the one on Mt. Lemmon, since the others will likely be included in a later cleanup
To get this done, we would need...
A flatbed trailer, (large enough to carry a van carcass) 2 or 3 good winches 5-8 volunteers
I'm all in for this, and I am sure we can get enough folks to help remove this. I'm going to speak to the local junk yards and see if we can deposit it for free, or there is also a place on Ft. Lowell by I-10 that appears to recycle vehicles.
So, when can we do it, and who is in?

I'm in. I can only do weekends though because of school. It would be cool if we could get some news coverage also, especially if we remove the one's at Reddington also.

I am in for a weekend day... September 30th is no good, nor is the weekend of October 14/15th.
We also need to find out if that junker car is on private property or not. Is this the bluish rusted out vehicle near the watering hole (with ranches nearby), kinda in a gulley, but right by the road? If it is on private property, we would need to get permission from the owner of that land.

If we can't get a flatbed trailer, I do have an oxy-acetalyne torch... just need to buy tanks. We could hack it up, and load it in the beds of our own trucks, and your trailer. Just a thought If anyone else has torches, it would make quick work of that sheet metal and chassis

I'm in. I think there are more dead vehicle carcasses back there too, if I remember correct. Thought I saw some slightly off the beaten path. Give me some time to get her running and the RC should have no problem pulling a trailer with the van on it. Just need to find a trailer.

James I'll check to see who owns that property, I'm thinking that it is FS land and leased to one of the local ranchers. And if someone can find and bring a trailer up, my 3/4 ton can pull it back loaded with the van.

James, that would be a good start to get the p.r. going with tucson, one thing though when i had my towing company not to many junk yards would take trucks without a title, it is to much of a hassle for them to get proper paperwork for the truck, they have to call mvd to get a appointment for mvd to come out and inspect, could take 2weeks to 2 months just to get it inspected, then after it get inspected it could take another2-4 months to get the proper paperwork to dispose of it. Now some people would cut the truck up in pieces and take it over to amcep, off of irvington by tucson electric power and they would take it because it was cut up and pay you money for it which, the money could go into the tor fund. I don't think that it has changed since i was in business. I would be willing to help unless i am going to the other house, i also have a 9000 lb winch.

Well, since it's already been volunteered, I've got a dual axle trailer.
We need to find out where we can get rid of it, if it has to be cut up, how big of pieces etc.
I've got some torches, and some other equipment that might help.
Need someone to haul the trailer but I see a few of y'all have rigs to handle that.

I wish I could be there for that project. If I was in AZ I would have access to a cutting torch, sawzall and a trailer (maybe). I hope the venture is a success!

I think that the pieces if cut into 3x3 or 4x4 pieces would be ok. It would also be easier to handle.

Just a little update on my end. Tried to get a hold of my contacts with the Forest Service, but they are all out of state on fires and the ones that are left don't know anything about the van or know who's land. Did some checking up out here and I believe the land is part of the 3C ranch, still trying to get a hold of the rancher, he doesn't want to answer the phone I guess.
I'll keep trying to get a hold of him.
