I’m going to try and get out on Sunday July 9th. I’m planning an “easy -to moderate” level trail, anyone want to come along? Any trail suggestions? I’ll be at the circle K on Tanque Verde Rd. CB channel 14. Time to be announced (think early AM to beat some of the heat and get plenty of trail time). Rob

I was out at Reddington this past weekend and I ran the first half of the Chimney Rock trail. The first half of the trail is very easy and can be done with 2wd. It is my understanding that the second half is a bit more difficult and 4wd is recommended. The trail is about 10 miles long and there are some cool rocks to play around on at Chimney Rock. For a more challenging trail you could try Chivo Falls. I haven't run this trail in a while but the last time I did it was pretty challenging in spots.

Do you know which way your going in,the ranch side or mile marker 14,going mile marker 14 is great because of the rollercoaster effect not being able to see over the hills to which way you turn at the top.Easy in 4 but hard in 2 wheel ,just watch the creek bed it can sneek up on you couple deep rock areas that if you hit can chock your tires quick.

We havn't really decided yet, but mile marker 14 sounds like fun. Maybe see you there.

Just got back from the run. It was great. The second half of the Chimney Rock trail is awesome. A lot of the trail is through a wash with big trees and some great places to camp. This trail is a must do for anyone. I wouldn't recommend this trail for 2wd. I had problems in a couple spots with 4wd but nothing too serious. I think roverob is going to post some pics of the run so those should give you a good idea of the condition of the trail.

Thats actually one of my more favorite spots here in Tucson, is the second half of Chimney. It's kinda cool cutting in and out of the wash and its alot of fun...Like Kyle said...not recommended for 2wd, but if anyone wants to ride, I'm hoping to head back out there on my next trip....whenever I get some projects done on the heep...

Ya, we didn't head down until around 3. Maybe you can catch the Mt. Lemmon Run.

I wouldn't recommend this trail for 2wd. Even my 2wd? I would not say it COULDNT be done...but there would be some strapping...and probably some rock rash or panel damage...who knows though...you might make it fine... When I run the trail...(hopefully within the next two weeks or so), I'll be glad to lead ya through there and pull as needed!

I agree with archangel. It probably could be done, but wouldn't be easy.

Eh, easy is soooo over-rated. ;D Besides, I don't want to try anything too rough 'til I get the Passport lifted, which will have to wait a while.

I’m having trouble with the camera. It apparently has a set of demands and is holding the photos hostage. I’m waiting for the hostage negotiator to arrive.
I’ll get them up soon.

How do i get there from PHX?? Just go to map quest and get directions to this Circle K: 11271 E Tanque Verde Rd Tucson, AZ 85749 Once you get to the Circle K keep going and the road will turn into Reddington Rd. After maybe a mile it will become a dirt road and you can just follow it to the top and then pick a trail. If you need someone to guide I'm sure someone on the forum would be willing to take you. Depending on when you go I may be able to take you. Kyle

This message is for Slick1100, if you go in the backway (short trail) to chimney rock you could get to the rock without any problems at all and just play around on the rocks. Not to sure about taking the trail the long way, would be a little difficult in a few places with only 2wd but im sure it could be done.

Thanks! I've been to Chimney Rock once, but didn't continue past where it became more difficult. Right now my truck is stock, but traction hasn't been an issue. Once I get some ground clearance I feel that I should be able to go alot of places. I'm more into expedition style trail running than all out rock crawling.
