Thanks Bob!!!
Got the joints all welded up yesterday. Just need to paint. Oh, and if I remember, I am gonna measure how much tube we will need to tie the mounting points into the frame.

Somebody should tell the blad guy in that last pic to wear a hat next time... the glare is terrible! Lots of fun, and I think that cage looks awesome.

I swung by ballistic fab the other day to see my buddies, and picked up some gussets for the roll bar. Here's a pic of one in place. Welds look halfway decent too...

Bob, I need to get with you soon so we can plan out a spare tire carrier... What times work for you? I am busy this weekend, and next weekend I am helping a friend build a rear bumper. Is there any way we can work afternoons/early evenings? Say, start around 4ish?

Worked a little bit more on the roll bar today. I am adding a spare tire mount to the bar. Mounting the tire up high, so it doesn't interfere with my field of vision. Using this plate, I bent it to achieve the height I was after, and welded up the bends to strengthen them. I will add holes for the bolts to mount the wheel next: Here are a couple of pics showing how I made the mounting system. The piece of plating is going to be welded to the smaller pieces (running front to back). I am sure it will be strong enough to hold a 35 (not planning on going much bigger than that, if at all):

Today's progress came to a grinding halt... well, welding hault anyway. Mid bead, I ran out of wire With that being down, I am done for today... unless I switch to flux cored, but I am spoiled with how nice the whole project looks with MIG. I don't want to drive the half hour in rush hour traffic to the home depot on Irvington just to buy some wire. I'll stop by on the way home tomorrow after work. So, I cleaned and painted a *new* ammo can to hold all my .45 rounds. This sucks. I was hoping to have my spare mounted and DONE today. Would have happened to. All I have left is welding the underside of the tire mount, then welding that to the roll cage...

bummer about running out of wire! At least you've got some other toys to keep you occupied.

Today's progress. Now, all I need to do is take the whole assy out, finish 2 welds, then paint the damn thing... I am satisfied with the end result, but will probably shorten the mounting bracket a little more. It is a little tall, IMO. I wanted to still be able to get in and out of the garage, so I fabbed up some tabs, and drilled holes in them, as well as the mounting plate, so I can easily remove it when needed, using grade 8 bolts. Overall shots: And here's a closeup of how I made the brackets: Seems to work pretty well. No weird driving. I took it up and down the freeway by my house, and did some "maneuvers" in the neighborhood. No excess body roll to notice. We'll see if it effect my COG on off-camber situations. Anyway, enjoy the pics
