So I've been wheeln the Dana35 axle for awhile and its done me pretty good nothing to major has broke on it just a bracket or two but nothing internal at least. Figured it would happen sooner or later that i would want a new axle back there so finally found one and bought it from a guy for $100 here is what it looked like when i got it.. It didnt come with rotors or calipers so here are some parts i ended up buying Then i set to work grinding off all the stock bracketry on the axle that was for the ford explorer. Ive had the axle for almost a week now and this is what it currently looks like and here are all the brackets that will be welded on they have all been ground down to fit, painted, and prepped to weld in place. This is just a comparison shot of the 8.8 axle shaft compared to the Dana 35 axle shaft Also i got some more parts in the mail today, recieved my 8.8 mini spool and 4.5" Rubicon Express Coil Springs, the springs will be going on after the axle has been completed Thats all i got for now, will keep this post going along with the speed of the project hopefully this thing will be under the jeep before to long.....

Looking good Jason, I am sure you will feel a little safer wheeling with that axel rather than the 35.

Looking real good...I'll have some room cleared out for it tomorrow when I get home and we can get started on it.... Of course, we are not welding anything tomorrow night, but rather putting it together...We will not actually weld anything until its mocked up under the jeep...which means a full weekend (or most of it) of installing the axle...

I hate prepping axles. I will have to do that to mine soon, as I want to relocate my shocks. I have sway bar mounts that don't need to be there, along with some extra tabs... Good work tho! Keep it up.

I know we arnt welding anything tomorrow, that will take awhile to line up everything and get it all right. I got the brackets from a differnt stock axle that someone had already cut off and just ground them down to fit the 8.8

Luckily, I didn't have to go through all that. I got mine from a guy in Phoenix who was going to put it under his ZJ, but found something bigger. He went ahead and fabbed the perches for me and found a metal cover. Chasing the disc brake parts around town was the hard part. Seemed every store had the pads without the retaining clips and the wrong calipers.
Looks like you got all the same parts I did! I forgot about the wheel studs though.

lol, that would be a little f'd up lol, could get a lot of money for it though when its finished since nobody really sells another axle to bolt in under a ZJ. At a Minimum we could get a little over $1000. p.s. nice pic down in your signature area.

I was in a hurry earlier to get the pics posted so i left out that the rear drive shaft is a bit to long to be installed so on Monday it will be taken in to get shortened 1 1/2"s and then i can start driving around in 2wd again. I drove home from James place in 4wd, was a fun time. Hopefully James and ill be testing this thing on monday or tuesday just to flex it out and make sure his welds stay put, cover will probably be painted black before then

Good to see the axle is in place. Anyone ever wonder why James has pink paint? What color was the Heep gonna be before it became olive drab?
